Austin Peay State University’s baseball team lost its series opener against North Alabama on April 10 at Joe Maynard Field at Raymond C. Hand Park in Clarksville, Tennessee.
The game began with Austin Peay taking an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning. Senior Zion Taylor reached third base after a stolen base and a passed ball, then scored on a double by junior Ty Wisdom. Graduate Andres Matias followed with a single that allowed Wisdom to score from second.
North Alabama responded in the fourth inning when Dylan Coleman hit a solo home run off Austin Peay’s starting pitcher, junior Cody Airington. The Lions added three more runs in the fifth inning through an RBI double and another run scored on a passed ball, giving them a 4-2 advantage.
In the sixth inning, North Alabama extended its lead by two runs before Matias collected his second hit of the night with a solo home run to center field for Austin Peay’s third run. Over the next three innings, North Alabama scored three additional runs to secure a 9-3 victory.
The Governors will return for game two of their weekend series against North Alabama at 2 p.m. Saturday at Joe Maynard Field at Raymond C. Hand Park.
