Austin Peay State University’s baseball team lost to Tennessee Tech on Apr. 7, as the Golden Eagles scored two runs in the eighth inning to secure a 7-5 victory at Bush Stadium in Cookeville, Tennessee.
The result came after a close contest where both teams exchanged leads. The loss highlights the Governors’ struggle to maintain momentum during crucial late innings.
Tennessee Tech opened scoring with two runs in the first inning, including an RBI triple by Jorsixt Jiminez and a groundout that brought him home. Austin Peay responded in the second when graduate Andres Matias scored on a throwing error, but Tennessee Tech answered with another two-run frame on a wild pitch and an RBI double.
In the third inning, junior Ty Wisdom hit an RBI single for Austin Peay, followed by Matias driving in redshirt junior Ray Velazquez. The Governors took their only lead in the fourth when Velazquez singled to left field, bringing home two runs. However, Tennessee Tech tied it up with a two-out RBI single in the fifth and then clinched victory with their eighth-inning rally.
Looking ahead, Austin Peay will return home for their first game since March 22 against Lipscomb. They are set to host North Alabama for an Atlantic Sun Conference series beginning Friday at Joe Maynard Field at Raymond C. Hand Park in Clarksville.
