Austin Peay State University’s beach volleyball team split its matches on April 3 during the opening day of the Austin Peay Classic at the Atkins Family Beach Volleyball Facility.
The event marked an important start for the Govs, who began their home tournament with a strong win but faced a setback in their second match. The tournament is an opportunity for Austin Peay to test its lineup against regional opponents and build momentum heading into conference play.
In their first match, Austin Peay swept McKendree University 5-0. Four of the five courts won in straight sets, including a commanding 21-9, 21-10 victory on Court No. 2. Isabella Rusell completed the sweep with a three-set win on Court No.1, taking the final set 18-16.
Later in the day, Austin Peay fell to Texas A&M Kingsville. Although they won the first set on Court No.4 by a score of 21-15, they lost in three sets overall. On Court No.1, Rusell and her partner picked up their ninth win of the season with a straight-set victory (21-17, 21-19).
The Govs are scheduled to continue play at home on Saturday as they close out the Austin Peay Classic with matches against Central Arkansas at noon and Tennessee Tech at 4 p.m.
