Austin Peay State University’s men’s tennis team lost to Tennessee Tech 5-1 at the Governors Tennis Courts on April 8.
The match saw Austin Peay struggle in both doubles and singles play, with only one singles victory for the Governors. The loss impacts Austin Peay’s momentum as they approach the end of their season.
In doubles competition, Austin Peay’s pairings were defeated 6-3 in two matches by their Tennessee Tech opponents, while a third match was left unfinished at a score of 4-4. In singles action, Linus Rohlin of Tennessee Tech secured a win over an Austin Peay player from the No. 6 position with scores of 6-2 and 6-1. On the No. 1 court, Oliver Dao from Tennessee Tech won against his opponent in two sets of 6-3 and 6-2. Murilo Burckhardt clinched another point for Tennessee Tech with a straight-set victory on court three.
The Golden Eagles then sealed their overall win after Ricard Yepez took a three-set match on court four (6-1, 3-6, 10-6). Austin Peay earned its lone point when one player won at No. 5 singles by defeating Christian Cappuccini of Tennessee Tech (6-1, 7-6).
With this result finalized, Austin Peay is now preparing for its penultimate match of the season against Alabama at Curry Tennis Center in Nashville on Friday at 11 a.m.
As the season nears its conclusion, both teams will look to build on these performances heading into their final contests.
