The Austin Peay State University women’s golf team finished the first day of the Jan Weaver Invitational in second place after posting rounds of 292 and 287 on April 11 at Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Kentucky.
The tournament is significant for the Governors as they trail leaders Murray State by 13 strokes but hold a comfortable 16-stroke lead over third-place Lindenwood. The team’s performance puts them in a strong position heading into the final round.
A freshman led Austin Peay with a one-under-par 71 in the first round and an even-par 72 in the second, resulting in a two-round total of 143 and tying her for second place individually. Another teammate is just one stroke behind with scores of 73 and 71, totaling a first-day score of 144 and placing her tied for seventh. A third golfer sits tied for tenth after shooting rounds of three-over-par 75 and one-under-par 71 for a total score of 146 through two rounds.
Other notable performances include players currently tied for twelfth place: Hirtzel (75-73), Jimenez (74-74), and Roberts (71-77). Cox (73-79) and Spencer (80-72) are both tied for twenty-sixth with identical totals of 152 after two rounds.
