Two members of the Austin Peay State University women’s golf team, Cowing and Arnzen, were named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman Team, according to an April 22 announcement from the league. Four players from the team also received Academic All-ASUN honors.
These recognitions highlight both athletic and academic achievements for the Governors this season. Cowing posted a scoring average of 76.06 over all 11 tournaments, with her performance contributing significantly in 29 out of 33 rounds played. She recorded a low round of 69 at the Jan Weaver Invitational, which she won, helping Austin Peay secure a playoff victory over Murray State. The freshman from Gilbert, Arizona finished in the top ten five times during the season and recently tied for seventh place at the ASUN Championship at Dothan Country Club.
Arnzen finished her freshman year with a scoring average of 75.97 across all tournaments and contributed in 30 out of her team’s total rounds. Her best round was a score of 68 at the Jan Weaver Invitational where she secured second place overall.
Four student-athletes—Breedlove, Hirtzel, Jimenez, and Spencer—were recognized on the Academic All-ASUN team for their performances both on course and in academics. Breedlove led Austin Peay with a scoring average of 75.30 this season while maintaining a GPA of 3.861 as a Biology major. Hirtzel averaged 76.79 strokes per round while pursuing Psychological Science with a GPA of 3.910.
Jimenez competed in eight tournaments as a sophomore with an average score of 79.42; she is studying Accounting with a perfect GPA of 4.000. Senior Spencer played six tournaments this year averaging scores just above seventy-nine while majoring in Psychological Science with a GPA of 3.923.
The team’s achievements reflect ongoing efforts by student-athletes to excel both athletically and academically throughout their collegiate careers.
