April 11-15 is Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week, a time established for all animal control officers, nationwide, who work to save animals and advance animal welfare. Animal Control officers are part of the first responders, emergency services, and essential work force network, an often forgotten group, especially during the last two years during of the COVID-19 pandemic. These officers usually go unnoticed but deal with many of the same situations as law enforcement on behalf of the animals in our community.
This time is also set aside to remember those Animal Control officers who have lost their lives across the nation in the line of duty, which includes four officers in 2021.
If you see one of our officers out and about this week, please thank them for all they do. One kind word makes a world of difference in their day.
We are grateful for a County Commission and Mayor’s Office that supports our work, our officers, our personnel, our mission and our goals.
