A formal promotion ceremony was held today to honor and promote James Derico to the rank of Patrol Lieutenant.
Lieutenant Derico began his career with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office as a Reserve Deputy in August 1995. In 1996 he was hired on a part-time basis and then hired as a full-time patrol deputy in April 1997.
As a patrol deputy, Lt. Derico was heavily involved in traffic safety. He worked with the Governor's Highway Safety Office both locally and on a State-Wide level. He was widely recognized for his knowledge and expertise by his peers and supervisors.
Lt. Derico was promoted to Field Training Officer in May 2013 and later to Patrol Corporal in October 2014. His knowledge and experience made him an asset to his peers and supervisors. Well respected by all those he works with, his abilities earned him a promotion to Patrol Sergeant in July 2016 where he not only supervised a regular patrol shift but also led our Traffic and Crime Suppression Units.
Lt. Derico brings over 27 years of diverse law enforcement experience to his new position. Please join us all in congratulating him on a well-deserved promotion!
