CEMC and CDE customers may experience power outages for up to 30 minutes at a time. These are planned blackouts by TVA due to load demand

Please see the list of things below that we can all do to reduce our demand on the system.

The power system has reached peak energy demand, higher than yesterday. With these extreme conditions, TVA has once again asked CEMC and other local energy providers to implement controlled outages until further notice. This means that service to an area will be interrupted for up to 30 minutes, restored, and interrupted in a different area.

We understand this is frustrating and inconvenient, especially during extreme cold weather and the holidays. However, reducing energy demand in a systematic, planned way helps to keep the power grid stable and prevents longer, widespread power outages.

Here are a few ways you can help:

- Set your thermostat to 68 degrees or lower. Every degree below 68 can save up to 3% on your future power bills.

- Wait to run the dishwasher and wash/dry clothes until necessary.

- Conserve hot water.

- Make sure all unnecessary lights and appliances are off.

CEMC is continuing to monitor the situation and apologizes to those who have experienced outages. We have additional crews working throughout the day to restore any power outages or those that may occur. We will also continue to provide updates to our members as they become available to us.
