Today, the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Patrick McHenry (NC-10), expressed his support for the U.S. House of Representatives passing H.R. 7521, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. In a statement, Chairman McHenry emphasized the importance of the legislation in safeguarding national security.
"From sharing Americans’ data with the CCP to its impact on our nation’s children, TikTok poses a grave risk to our national security," said Chairman McHenry. He highlighted the concerning behaviors of TikTok and its potential threats to the country.
Chairman McHenry also pointed out the significance of the House's decision in addressing the issue, stating, "Today, the House overwhelmingly voted to facilitate the largest ever outbound investment involving China—the exact type of transaction some so-called ‘hawks’ want to restrict." He underscored the balance between divestment and investment in protecting American interests.
The Chairman concluded by affirming his pride in supporting the bill, stating, "I was proud to support this commonsense bill to protect Americans’ data and our national security from the CCP." His remarks reflected a commitment to ensuring the safety and security of American citizens in the digital age.
