The House Financial Services Committee, under the leadership of Chairman French Hill (AR-02), is convening its Organizational Meeting for the 119th Congress. The agenda includes adopting rules and an Authorization and Oversight Plan. Resolutions to appoint members to subcommittees and establish a Task Force on Monetary Policy, Treasury Market Resilience, and Economic Prosperity are also being considered.
Chairman Hill addressed the committee members in his opening remarks, welcoming both returning and new members. He highlighted the importance of electronic voting as part of the committee's practices: "I intend to continue the practice and look forward to working with the Ranking Member to employ electronic voting as soon as the Chairs on House Administration and Rules promulgate rules around the use of this technology."
Hill emphasized America's diversity, stating that "this amazing, robust People’s House is a microcosm of our citizens at large." He acknowledged different approaches among members but stressed their shared commitment to serving constituents.
As chairman, Hill outlined his responsibilities: "I will enforce the Rules of the House and those of this Committee in a fair, balanced and forthright manner." He expressed plans for financial regulation improvements: "We will work every day to improve the quality and condition of financial regulation so that competitive, accessible financial products and services can be successfully used by all Americans."
Hill's agenda includes building community banking systems, clarifying digital asset laws, broadening financial literacy, protecting consumer privacy, reforming housing markets, and overseeing financial regulators. He emphasized bipartisan cooperation: "As we demonstrated time and time again last Congress, this Committee works best when it works in a bipartisan fashion."
He congratulated Ranking Member Waters for her continued service: "I know that together we have the potential to accomplish a great deal." Looking ahead two years into this Congress's term, Hill said they have opportunities for meaningful changes in people's lives.
Reflecting on November's elections where Republicans gained trust from voters in executive and legislative branches, Hill stated: "This committee will lead the way. We must deliver for our citizens."
